Bay of Plenty severe weather

The Bay of Plenty floods were the worst seen in the area for many years. Early analysis suggests that the rainfall may have exceeded a 1 in 100 year annual recurrence interval (ARI), with 280 mm falling in 48 hours at Opotiki. Gaugings from rivers suggest the Rangitaiki flowed at its highest since the record began 25 year ago. The Whakatane River reached its highest stage since the record began in 1954.

With the aim of sharing that information, these web pages provide easy access to information on the severe weather and flooding from this event.

Here we present weather maps and warnings from MetService, satellite images from NIWA, information on data held elsewhere, and links to other sites that may be of interest.
