NZ Beach Profile Monitoring

Coastal monitoring is a fundamental component of sustainable management. Typically Regional Councils conduct beach profile monitoring. Beach profile monitoring provides information that can be used to assess whether a shoreline is eroding or accreting, monitor the effects of sand extraction on the shore and provide information for designing coastal hazard setbacks.

At present New Zealand’s beach profile monitoring network is patchy. Locations where beach profiles are monitored by Regional Councils will be available via Coastal Explorer soon.
